On the nature of inertia and Newton's laws
Abstract
This work continues the author's research into the applicability of the concept of a compressible oscillating ether to the description of the nature of various physical laws and equations. The laws of classical Newtonian mechanics, which for over three hundred years were considered axioms based solely on the generalization of experimental data, are examined. A formula for the force acting on material bodies moving in the ether is derived from the ether equations. Based on this formula, it is proven that inertial forces (Newton's first law), including centrifugal force, are real forces of ether resistance to a change in a body's state of rest or its state of uniform and rectilinear motion. It is also demonstrated that the law of motion of bodies (Newton's second law) is also a consequence of the formula for the force acting on material bodies moving in the ether.
